While I won’t flatter myself into believing that I have thousands of hardcore fans, a couple readers have asked where I’ve been, and questioned why I haven’t produced content as regularly as I did in previous months.
The truth is, I’m still wrestling with the learning curve of blogging, video post-production and *gulp* streaming. Guild Wars 2 launches on August 28th. Mechwarrior Online’s early access starts on August 7th. That leaves me a month to work out the kinks and at least be competent at beginner level video content.
I was getting by with Windows Movie Maker and my 4-year-old PC, but only just. There was no way it has the power needed to stream. Hell, with only an AMD dual core processor, even running games on medium settings was getting tough.
Fortunately, my new PC arrived last week and it’s built for battle and bred for war!
- I7-3930K overclocked to 4.2GHZ
- 16 GB RAM
- Twin EVGA NVIDIA GTX 670s running in SLI
- 2TB Sata III HD
- Asus Xonar 7.1 sound card
- Liquid cooled
This is a monster of an upgrade from what I had before!
I’ve since loaded it up with Fraps, Sony Vegas HD 11, Audacity and GIMP 2 (since I’m not convinced I need to spring for Photoshop).
That would be great news… if I knew my way around any of it.
I have some basic Fraps and Audacity experience, but it took me a good bit of time to even produce a single video in Vegas. The blame is squarely on me, and not the software. The software is amazing and there are literally hundreds of options and settings! Of course that’s also the bad news.
As it stands, my weekly Vanguard column on Guild Wars Insider has been keeping me busy and provided me with opportunities to learn all this stuff.
Anyway, that’s it for now. I have a ton of “How To” videos to watch!
